Three bus passengers were injured in a Long Beach car accident involving a Long Beach Transit bus and two other vehicles. According to a news report in The Press-Telegram, the bus accident occurred at the intersection of 10th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Long Beach the evening of March 2, 2011. Two men and a woman, who were passengers in the bus, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. It is unclear at this time how the accident occurred or if any other victims were harmed in the accident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Los Angeles bus accident. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery from their injuries.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 27 people were killed and 1,881 were injured in Long Beach car accidents. During the same year, Los Angeles County car accidents claimed 667 lives and injured 52,229 people.

What Caused This Bus Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused this injury bus accident. There are several questions here. Did impairment, driver distraction, inattention or speed have a part to play in this accident? Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection? Did one of the drivers run a red light at the street intersection?

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): "The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway." It is also a serious traffic violation to run a red light at the intersection under California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a).

Liability Issues

Common carriers such as bus companies have the highest duty of care to their passengers. What that means is they have a duty to transport passengers safely. If this accident is determined to be the bus driver's fault, then the driver and the transit authority can be held liable. If one of the other drivers is determined to have been at fault, then he or she can also be held financially responsible for the victims' injuries. An experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise victims about their legal rights and options.

Seriously injured in a Los Angeles County bus accident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

A car accident in Long Beach resulted in serious injuries for two women the afternoon of February 3, 2011. City News Service reports that the two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Molino Avenue. The two women, both in their 70s, were in a pickup truck that was hit by another vehicle. The other driver also sustained injuries, which were not life-threatening. The two women were hospitalized with serious injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of this car accident.

I hope the victims of this car accident have not been catastrophically injured. I pray that they recover quickly and fully from whatever injuries they have sustained.

Car Accidents

There were 667 deaths and 52,229 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles County, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In the city of Long Beach, there were 27 fatalities and 1,811 injuries involving car accidents.

Laws and Liability Issues

It is unclear from this report what caused this injury car accident. But we do know that this occurred at a street intersection where there is a two-way stop sign. It appears that one of the vehicles may not have properly stopped at the stop sign or may have failed to yield right-of-way.

According to California Vehicle Code section 21800 (a): "The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway." Failing to stop and yield right-of-way at a stop sign is also a serious traffic violation under California Vehicle Code Section 21802 (a).

Injured victims could seek compensation in such cases from at-fault drivers for medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. A skilled Long Beach personal injury lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous intersection played a part in this crash. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway can also be held liable. Under California Government Code Section 911.2, any personal injury claim against a public entity must be properly filed within six months of an accident or injury.

Seriously injured in a Los Angeles County car accident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

A motorcyclist, who was killed in a truck accident in Long Beach the morning of January 24, 2011 has been identified by officials as 47-year-old Georgia Fisher. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the deadly motorcycle versus truck accident happened at the intersection of Earle Street and the APL terminal when a tractor-trailer made a left into the terminal in front of Fisher's motorcycle.

Fisher sustained severe blunt force trauma and died from her injuries. Officials say her helmet came off due to the force of the collision. Authorities are considering filing manslaughter charges against the truck driver, who they say, made an unsafe left turn and failed to yield right-of-way to the oncoming motorcycle.

I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Georgia Fisher for their devastating loss. They will be in my prayers.

Motorcycle Accidents

There were 114 deaths and 2,934 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In the city of Long Beach, two people died and 100 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.

The Law Relating to Left Turns

California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety."

Liability Issues

If it is determined that the truck driver was at fault, the driver as well as his or her employer could be held financially responsible for Fisher's wrongful death. Victims' families would be well-advised to contact a reputed Long Beach personal injury lawyer who has successfully represented victims and their families against large trucking companies.

Lost a family member in a Long Beach motorcycle accident? Want to know your rights? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation? Want justice? Want to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen to another family?

A man and a woman were critically injured in a Long Beach car accident, when their car went out of control and fell 40 feet off a freeway ramp the night of September 29, 2010. According to a news report in The Long Beach Press-Telegram, the major injury crash occurred on the 7th Street onramp to the 710 Freeway when a Toyota Scion went off the bridge and plummeted. A man and a woman were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. They were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officials are looking into what caused this car accident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the two injured victims of this Long Beach car accident. I wish them both a complete and speedy recovery from their critical injuries.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 27 people were killed and 1,881 were injured in Long Beach car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 fatalities and 52,229 personal injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Car Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused this devastating car crash. There are several questions here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the Scion, which caused the driver to lose control? Was there a dangerous roadway condition? Was another vehicle involved? Was the Scion forced off the roadway by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine what occurred here.

Claim for Compensation

In such cases, it would be in the best interests of injured victims to seek the counsel of an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that their legal rights are protected. It would also be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current crashed state, unaltered, so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for evidence of auto product defects, design flaws and malfunctions.

Seriously injured in a Los Angeles car accident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

Two people identified as Jesus Heredia Calixto, 18, and Candice Ann Bustamante, 32, were killed, along with another woman, in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say, was caused by street racing. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the fatal accident occurred when a 2003 Ford Mustang and a 1997 Ford Taurus were possibly racing each other on the Long Beach Peninsula just past midnight on August 22, 2010. The two cars struck each other near 55th Place and Ocean Boulevard. The Mustang spun out of control due to the impact of the collision and hit a stone marker.

The Mustang's passengers were ejected. Bustamante, Calixto, the driver, and another female passenger died at the scene. Another 19-year-old man was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. The two occupants of the Taurus, which was determined to have been stolen, were uninjured, but fled the scene of the crash. They were later arrested and several charges are pending against them, officials said.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the deceased victims in this horrific crash. I also wish the critically injured teen the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep these victims and their families in your prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 27 people were killed and 1,881 were injured in Long Beach car accidents. That same year, 667 fatalities and 52,229 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in Los Angeles County.

The Law Relating to Street Racing

Racing on a public roadway is not only dangerous, but it is illegal in the state of California. According to California Vehicle Code section 23109 (a): "A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest." It is also a serious crime to leave the scene of an accident under California Vehicle Code 20001 (a).

In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing is apparent, the at-fault parties can not only face criminal charges, but can also be held civilly liable for the wrongful deaths and personal injuries caused. Victims or their families would be well advised to contact an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

Is street racing a common problem in your community? What steps do you think should be taken to eradicate this problem?

Edgar Toledo, 23, was killed in a Long Beach car accident after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle the evening of August 5, 2010. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, Toledo was riding a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle south on Santa Fe, when he collided with a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant that was making a left turn onto Columbia Street. Toledo died at the scene. The driver of the car, 21-year-old Miguel Encisco, and three of his passengers were also injured. Police are investigating this fatal motorcycle crash.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Edgar Toledo. My thoughts and prayers are also with those injured in this tragic accident.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were eight deaths and 100 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Long Beach. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 114 people died and 2,934 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this fatal collision occurred. Some witnesses apparently told investigators that Toledo may have been involved in a street race with another motorcycle. The important question in this case is who was at fault. Was Toledo racing? Did another rider challenge him to a race? Did the driver of the Mitsubishi turn left in front of the motorcycle, failing to yield right-of-way? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine who was at-fault.

Street racing is illegal under California Vehicle Code section 23109 (a). Also, California law requires drivers to yield right of way to oncoming vehicles before making a left or U-turn at an intersection.

Toledo's family, as well as the injured victims in this case, would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the investigation and make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable.

What are some of the most dangerous roadways for motorcyclists in your city?

A man was killed in a Long Beach motorcycle accident the morning of February 2, 2010, The Press Telegram reports. The fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the eastbound 91 Freeway connector to the southbound 710 Freeway. California Highway Patrol officials said the victim was thrown off his motorcycle and fell on to a street under the transition road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this man who was killed in this motorcycle accident. Please keep them in your prayers.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there was one death and 120 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Long Beach. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 85 people died and 2,792 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in 2007. Also, countywide, car accidents claimed 712 lives and caused 56,475 injuries during the same year.

Accident Causes

This report does not provide much information about how or why this fatal motorcycle accident occurred. There are still many questions here. Did the motorcycle collide with another vehicle? Did the motorcyclist lose control because he was forced off the roadway? Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the motorcycle, which caused the man to lose control and crash? Was there a dangerous condition on the freeway that caused this crash? Did the negligence of another driver cause this fatal crash? I trust CHP officials are examining these and other issues in order to determine exactly what occurred here.

Claim for Compensation

In such cases where serious personal injuries or fatalities are involved, it would be in the best interests of victims' families to consult with an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled wrongful death claims. Such claims are usually filed in cases where someone's negligence or wrongdoing has caused a fatality. These claims are filed by the deceased victim's family and seek compensation to cover funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other damages.

A skilled car accident lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous or defective roadway caused or contributed to this accident. If that was the case, the governmental entity responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable as well. Any such claim against a California governmental entity must be filed properly within 180 days of the accident or injury.

A 26-year-old man was seriously injured in a Long Beach car accident after his vehicle was broadsided by a big rig loaded with cars. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the driver was traveling on the northbound 710 Freeway near Willow Street, when the big rig hit the driver's side of his sedan, the morning of January 27, 2010. The man's hip and leg were trapped and firefighters took about 10 minutes to free him from the car. The man was taken to an area trauma center, but his injuries are said to be non life-threatening.

My heart goes out to this man who has been injured in this freeway collision. I'm relieved to hear that he is expected to survive and hope his injuries were not catastrophic in any way. I wish him the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep him in your prayers.

Long Beach Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 39 fatalities and 2,212 injuries involving car accidents in Long Beach. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.

Fault and Liability

It's not clear based on this news report who was at fault for this truck accident. It seems that the driver of the large truck loaded with cars may have veered away from his designated traffic lane or lost control of his rig causing it to move sideways and broadside the car. I trust an official investigation will shed more light on what occurred here.

If investigators determine that the driver of the big rig was negligent or at-fault in this case, the car's driver could seek compensation for medical expenses, lost earnings, cost of hospitalization, surgery, pain and suffering, and other related damages. In such cases, the driver of the big rig and his employer could be held liable for the injuries and damages. Victims who are injured in such accidents would be well-advised to seek the counsel of a reputed Long Beach personal injury lawyer who has successfully represented those injured in truck accidents.
