Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
An Orange County car accident involving three vehicles left two drivers injured, one apparently more seriously than the other. The Orange County Register reports that this car collision occurred the morning of December 3, 2009, at the intersection of Tustin Ranch Road and Bryan Avenue and involved a Toyota Scion, a Honda Accord and a Mercedes-Benz.
According to Tustin police officials, the chain reaction crash began when the Honda rear-ended the Scion, which was parked in the number two lane. The Scion then spun around and hit the Mercedes, which was in the number one lane. The driver of Scion was the most seriously injured. He was unconscious and taken to an area hospital. The female driver of the Honda Accord was also transported to an area hospital. But officials said she only sustained minor injuries. It is not clear whether anyone in the Mercedes was injured.
Orange County Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), two fatalities and 392 injuries involving car accidents in Tustin were reported. In Orange County as a whole, car accidents caused 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries in 2007.
I sympathize with the driver of the Scion who has been seriously injured in this car accident, possibly due to negligence or inattention on the part of another driver. I hope this driver did not sustain major injuries and hope he recovers quickly and completely from his injuries.
Issues of Negligence in Car Accidents
If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears to me that the driver of the Honda may have been at-fault for this accident. The driver of the Honda failed to stop her car in time to avoid hitting the vehicles at the light. Was she impaired, speeding, driving recklessly or negligently at the time? If the driver of the Honda is found to be at fault, she could be held financially responsible for the injuries caused to others in this accident.
