An Oregon man and his wife, who suffered severe injuries in a car accident have been identified as Robert Isaac Naidis, 86, and his wife, 83-year-old Maria Naidis. The major injury car accident occurred on the 5 Freeway in Colusa County as Robert Naidis was driving his Subaru Outback SUV. California Highway Patrol officials said Naidis lost control of the SUV and veered off the roadway. The SUV rolled over. Naidis and his wife were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Officials said that Naidis may have been forced off the road by another vehicle or his vehicle, for some reason, drifted away from the road.

I hope and pray that this elderly couple makes it through these critical injuries they have sustained in this rollover accident. I wish them the very best for a speedy and full recovery. They will be in my prayers.

Rollover Accident Can Be Deadly

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that at least 10,000 people are killed in Rollover accidents in the United States every year. That is nearly one-fourth of all traffic accident fatalities in the country. The sheer intensity and violence of a rollover crash increases the probability of catastrophic injuries or death. SUVs in particular have the propensity to tip over and roll even under normal freeway conditions.

In this particular car accident, there are more questions than answers. What exactly caused Naidis to lose control of his Subaru SUV? As officials said, was it caused by another driver who ran Naidis off the road? Was it the result of Naidis suffering a medical condition? Was there a vehicle defect or malfunction in the SUV, which may have caused the Subaru to drift?

Who or What Caused this Car Accident?

If this accident was indeed caused by a negligent driver, then that person can be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. If a driver caused the accident and then left the scene of the crash, he or she could be charged with felony hit-and-run charges. Such cases where a driver causes an accident without making contact with another vehicle and then leaves the scene, are termed as "non-contact hit-and-run."

An experienced California personal injury lawyer who has the resources to analyze this accident and has access to accident reconstruction experts, will be able to help this family pursue their legal rights. A skilled car accident lawyer will also be able to tell the victims how their own car insurance policy will apply to a hit-and-run accident or to an incident involving an uninsured/underinsured driver. If an auto product defect is suspected, the family would be well-advised to preserve the SUV in its current condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence.
