Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
Six people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident after a Montebello city bus and a car collided at an intersection, the Whittier Daily News reports. The car-bus collision occurred at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Bluff Road. Five people on the bus sustained injuries as did the driver of the car. Traffic investigators are looking into what caused this accident, Montebello police officials said.
It is not clear how badly the victims were injured, but I sure hope there were no serious or major injuries in this accident. I wish all the victims the very best for a speedy and full recovery.
Prior Bus Accident in Montebello
This is apparently the second collision between a Montebello city bus and a passenger car at a city intersection. In July, 14 people were injured, four seriously, after a Montebello Transit bus collided with a van at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Concourse Avenue. As with that bus accident, this one also likely happened because one of the drivers did not yield right-of-way at this intersection. It is also possible that one of the drivers blew through a red light and caused this collision. Running a red light is a serious violation of California Vehicle Code 21453.
Car Accident Liability Issues
In this particular accident, it's important to find out who was at fault. If the driver of car was negligent and caused the accident because of his or her negligence or wrongdoing then he or she is liable for the accident and injuries caused. If the bus driver caused the collision, then the transit authority could be held liable. If the accident was caused by a dangerous condition on the roadway then the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could be held liable. Please remember that any such claim filed against a government agency in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury. Also bus operators, whether they are pubic or private carriers – owe their passengers the highest duty of care. Id the accident occurs at a result o the bus driver' negligence, his employer, the transit authority could be held liable.
