San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials identified 36-year-old Romulus Lee Glenn, as the victim who was killed in a San Bernardino car accident when the sedan he was riding in rolled over in the desert near Kramer Junction, the San Bernardino Sun reports. The driver of the Honda Accord was driving north on the Highway 395 when the vehicle crashed and overturned. Both Glenn and the driver were ejected from the sedan. Glenn was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Romulus Lee Glenn for their tragic loss. I also hope and pray that the driver of the Accord was not critically hurt and that he recovers quickly and completely from his injuries. Please keep these victims and their families in your prayers.

Rollover Accidents Cause Thousands of Fatalities

Rollover accidents claim thousands of lives in the United States each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that at least 10,000 fatalities occur each year in the United States as a result of rollover accidents. That number constitutes roughly 25 percent of all traffic accident deaths in the nation. According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 308 deaths and 9,920 injuries involving San Bernardino County car accidents.

Rollover accidents can occur due to many reasons. Sometimes we see that vehicle defects including design defects could cause or contribute to rollover accidents. In this particular case, I'd also be curious whether there were seat restraint failure issues because both Glenn and the driver were thrown out of the car. It's not clear whether or not the men were buckled up or whether their seatbelts failed during the rollover crash.

Seatbelt Defects Can be Deadly

If that was the case, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective seatbelt could be held liable for the fatal injuries caused to Glenn and the driver's serious injuries. Where there are auto product defects involved, injured victims may be entitled to medical/funeral expenses, loss of wages and other related damages. Seatbelt defects are unfortunately quite common in many vehicles. The auto product defect attorneys at BISNAR | CHASE have seen numerous cases of seat belt failure involving seat belt mounts, buckles, webbing and grabbers.

A skilled California personal injury lawyer experienced with auto product defect cases can help determine whether the serious injuries in this crash were caused as a result of an auto product defect. The best auto product liability lawyers will always offer free and comprehensive consultations to injured victims and their families.
