Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
A motorcyclist was critically injured in an Orange County car accident after, officials say, he veered into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the accident occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Orange, the morning of January 24, 2010. The motorcyclist was riding east on Santiago Canyon Road with a group of other motorcyclists, when he collided with a Toyota Highlander. He was transported to an area trauma center and was listed in critical condition. No one else was injured in this crash.
My heart goes out to this injured motorcyclist and his family. I hope he did not sustain catastrophic injuries. I wish him the very best for a complete recovery. This injured victim and his family will certainly be in my prayers.
Motorcycle Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 43 injuries reported in Orange as a result of motorcycle accidents. In Orange County as a whole, 24 people died and 752 were injured in motorcycle accidents during the same year. Also, countywide, car accidents claimed 178 lives and injured 14,185 people in 2007.
What Caused the Accident?
Based on this newspaper report, it is not entirely clear what caused the motorcycle rider to veer out of his lane and crash into the SUV. What was his level of expertise or training as far as riding motorcycles? How fast was he going at the time? Was there an auto product defect or a mechanical malfunction in this motorcycle at the time? Was this accident caused by a dangerous or defective roadway condition? I trust traffic investigators are looking at these and other factors while trying to determine what may have caused this major injury motorcycle crash.
An Experienced Injury Lawyer Can Help
In such cases, victims and their families should seek the counsel of an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the accident investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. In any car accident, if a vehicle defect is suspected, the vehicle must be preserved in its current crashed condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for malfunctions, product defects and other evidence.
