Hyundai is recalling 65,226 of its 2006-2009 Azera sedans because of an airbag defect. According to a news report in Inside Line, the right front airbag in these sedans may not deploy in the event of a car accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that the wiring harness for the right front seatbelt tension sensor may get damaged or worn out after repeated use of the seatbelt. If the tension sensor wiring becomes damaged, the airbag will fail to deploy in the event of a car accident. Hyundai has said that it is not aware of injuries or fatalities associated with this particular vehicle defect.

This auto product defect recall is expected to begin in February. If you own one of these vehicles and the airbag warning lamp comes on, the right front seatbelt should be replaced by an authorized dealer. In other cases, the seatbelt tension sensor wiring for the right front seatbelt will be rerouted and secured with a new seatbelt tension sensor wiring harness clip.

Faulty Airbags Cause Devastating Injuries

Airbag defects are extremely serious because they could result in catastrophic injuries or even death. There are two types of airbag defects – accidental deployment and failure to deploy. When an airbag accidentally deploys, it could result in a car crash or serious injuries to vehicle occupants. However, when an airbag fails to deploy, vehicle occupants do not have that extra layer of protection they need in a violent car accident.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured as a result of a faulty airbag, you could seek compensation from the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product for your injuries, damages and loss. Whether your injuries involve airbags that deployed when they weren't supposed to or a non-deployed airbag, the auto maker could be held liable for the defective auto product.

Auto Product Liability Issues

A reputed California personal injury lawyer, who has a successful track record with auto products liability claims, can help you pursue your legal rights, hold the auto maker accountable, and make sure you receive fair compensation for your injuries, damages and loss. Please remember that if you have been injured by a defective airbag or any defective auto product, the vehicle must be preserved in its crashed state, unaltered, so an expert can examine it thoroughly for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence.
