A 33-year-old man killed in a California motorcycle accident on the Highway 101 near Ventura has been identified as Salvador Gonzalez-Larracilla of Downey. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Gonzalez-Larracilla came upon slow traffic, veered off the roadway and hit two poles along the highway's right shoulder. Gonzalez-Larracilla was thrown off his motorcycle. He died a few hours later in an area hospital from his critical injuries.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Salvador Gonzalez-Larracilla for their tragic and untimely loss. I offer my heartfelt condolences to them. His family will be in my prayers.

Motorcycle Accidents in Ventura

In Ventura County, five people died and 210 were injured in 2007 as a result of motorcycle collisions, according to California Highway Patrol's traffic accident statistics. Also during that year, motorcycle accidents claimed four lives and injured 100 people in the unincorporated areas of Ventura County.

Based on this report, we do not how and why Gonzalez-Larracilla suddenly lost control of his motorcycle. There are many questions here. Was there an auto product defect in the motorcycle that caused this fatal accident? What type and model motorcycle was he riding at the time? The news report said there was a slow moving truck ahead of him. Did the truck impede traffic and cause this accident?

Motorcycle accident causes

Motorcycle accidents occur due to many reasons. Sometimes, it happens because the motorcyclist is negligent or driving recklessly. But a lot of times, these accidents also occur because motorists are not conscious of their environment. Motorists forget that they in fact share the roadway with motorcycles, pedestrians and bicyclists.

It would be in the best interest of a motorcycle accident victim and his or her family to consult with an experienced California personal injury attorney, who will follow up with the official investigation, identify the negligent parties and hold them responsible. If a dangerous roadway condition caused the accident, then the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. In California, the law requires that such claims be filed within 180 days of an accident or injury.
