Jeffrey Salazar, 35, was seriously injured in a Los Angeles car accident after his motorcycle struck a vehicle that came to a stop on the 210 Freeway, the Pasadena Star News reports. The injury crash occurred the morning of February 8, 2010 when Salazar was traveling west on the 210 Freeway near Bonnie Cove Avenue in Glendora. He was traveling at about 55 mph when the Lexus in front of him came to a stop because of traffic ahead.

Salazar applied his brakes, but the front wheel of the motorcycle apparently locked and he was thrown off the bike. California Highway Patrol officials said both he and the motorcycle slid under the Lexus. He sustained fractures to his lower arm and right knee. Salazar's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

It is indeed fortunate that Salazar did not sustain any catastrophic injuries in this motorcycle accident. I hope and pray that he recovers quickly and completely from his serious injuries. Please keep him in your prayers.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

There were no fatalities, but 16 injuries occurred involving motorcycle accidents in Glendora, according to CHP's 2007 traffic accident statistics. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 85 people died and 2,792 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in 2007. Also, countywide, car accidents claimed 712 lives and injured 56,475 during the same year.

Who was At Fault?

Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused the Lexus to slow down. It does not appear that Salazar was going at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision. However, the question is whether the driver of the Lexus stopped suddenly and caused Salazar to collide. If that was the case, the driver of the Lexus could be held liable for the accident. Or if there was contributory negligence here, that is, if the driver of the Lexus was partly responsible for the collision or contributed to it, then he or she could be held partially liable for the accident and injuries caused to Salazar.
