Laws and Liability Issues

I sincerely hope that the hit-and-run driver in this case is apprehended and brought to justice. California law requires any motorist who is involved in an accident -- major or minor -- to immediately stop at the scene of the crash. As a motorist, the law says that it is your duty to exchange information about insurance, contact and driver's license with other parties and, here's the important part -- get medical assistance for the injured. In this case, had the driver stopped and called 911, the victim may have received the help he so desperately needed at the time and may have even survived his injuries. At least, he would have had a fighting chance! This driver made a conscious choice to leave the victim lying injured on the roadway.

The victim's family would be well-advised to get in touch with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the police investigation and ensure that the family's legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also advise the family about how their car insurance policy applies to a hit-and-run accident or in an incident where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
