A hit-and-run crash in the San Francisco area seriously injured a 3-year-old boy the night of July 10, 2010. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the boy and his 1-year-old sister were seated in a double stroller and were getting back from a walk with their father near Graton. As they were about to get in their car, the stroller was struck by a vehicle. The boy suffered head injuries. His sister and father escaped with minor injuries. The driver did not stop and fled the scene of the accident.

I hope the little boy has not suffered catastrophic injuries in this crash. I hope the hit-and-run driver is apprehended and brought to justice. What a nightmare for this family! I wish the injured child the very best for a quick and full recovery. He and his family members will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Pedestrian Accidents

One fatality and 15 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Also, countywide, pedestrian accidents claimed four lives and injured 111 during the same year.

Hit-and-Run Law and Liability Issues

Leaving the scene of a car accident is a serious crime under California law. California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person, shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident." In this particular case, the driver of the pickup truck not only struck two young children and their father, but fled the scene without even stopping to look.
In such cases, it would be in the best interests of injured victims or their families to contact an experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise families about how their car insurance policy applies to a hit-and-run crash or in a case where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free and comprehensive consultation to injured victims and their families.
