Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
A man who was killed in a Ventura car accident after his car drifted across traffic lanes and crashed head-on into a van has been identified as 20-year-old Matthew Jacob Wismann. A Ventura County Star news report states that the October 20, 2009 fatal car accident occurred on Highway 126 near Center Street when Wismann struck a van driven by Adrian Powell, 53. Wismann died shortly after the crash in an area hospital while Powell was treated for major injuries including a broken pelvis. Both Powell and Wismann were buckled up at the time of the accident.
My heart goes out to the loved ones of Matthew Jacob Wismann for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to them. Please keep them in your prayers. I also wish Adrian Powell the very best for a speedy and full recovery.
Car Accident in Ventura County
Based on this newspaper report, it is not clear how or why this fatal car accident occurred. California Highway Patrol's 2007 traffic accident statistics show that 26 people died and 663 were injured in car accidents that took place in the unincorporated areas of Ventura County. In all of Ventura County, car accidents claimed 71 lives and caused 3,993 injuries during that same period.
I trust traffic investigators are looking into what caused Wismann to lose control of his car and crash into oncoming traffic. Did this occur as a result of a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in this vehicle? Did Wismann lose control because of a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was there any other vehicle involved here? If I were a member of Wismann's family, I'd want to find out the answers to these questions.
Contacting a Car Accident Lawyer
Wismann's family would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California car accident lawyer who can help determine whether the accident occurred as a result of vehicle defects or malfunctions. A skilled car accident lawyer should have an expert thoroughly examine the vehicle for any evidence of product failure. A California personal injury claim attorney, in addition to determining whether there was negligence or wrongdoing involved, will also be able to advise family members about their legal rights and options.

US-26 car crashes and US-101 car crashes, noting that one particular section of 101 has been nicknamed “slaughter alley” by local residents. The situation along these roadways obviously merits extreme caution.

Bob,
Can you advise the source of your post from 10/29? (Three Injured in Riverside Car Accident). I represent the family of one of the parties and am trying to locate a newspaper account that referenced a witness to the accident.
Thanks,
Bill
