Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
Richard Steinberg, 50, was seriously injured in a San Francisco car accident after he lost control of his car and crashed on the Interstate 80. The major injury crash occurred the morning of September 6, 2010 near American Canyon Road in Vallejo. California Highway Patrol officials say Steinberg was seen speeding past traffic in the right lanes of the highway at about 90 mph. Steinberg's Saturn then veered sharply to the left and crashed into the center divide and overturned. Steinberg was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
My heart goes out to this injured victim. I hope he has not sustained catastrophic injuries in this crash. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Car Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were eight fatalities and 463 injuries involving car accidents in Vallejo. In Solano County as a whole, 33 people died and 1,735 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Car Accident Causes
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused Steinberg to lose control of the vehicle. What caused the vehicle to speed at 90 mph on the highway? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the Saturn, which may have caused or contributed to the crash? Did Steinberg suffer a medical condition behind the wheel? I trust officials are looking at these and other issues in order to determine the cause of the accident.
Auto Products Liability Issues
If an auto product defect caused this accident, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.
Victims or their families would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer, who has successfully handled auto products liability cases. It would also be a good idea in such cases to preserve the crashed vehicle, intact, so it can be examined by an expert for defects, design flaws, malfunctions and other evidence. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
