Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
A 52-year-old man was seriously injured in a Garden Grove car accident after his motorcycle struck a taxi at a local intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred the afternoon of April 20, 2010 at the intersection of College Avenue and West Street. The motorcycle was traveling north on West Street and the taxi was headed west on College Avenue.
The impact of the collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off his bike and into the southbound lanes. The rider sustained serious leg injuries. Police do not suspect that the 60-year-old cab driver was under the influence at the time. Anyone who witnessed this injury accident is asked to call Garden Grove police officials at 714-741-5823.
My heart goes out to this injured motorcyclist. I hope he has not sustained any catastrophic injuries in this crash. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Motorcycle Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 30 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Garden Grove. In Orange County as a whole, motorcycle accidents claimed 35 lives and caused 801 injuries during the same year.
Causes and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it is not entirely clear how or why the two vehicles struck each other. It appears that the accident occurred at an intersection. Clearly, one of the vehicles failed to yield right-of-way or ran a red light. I trust police investigators are looking for witnesses to interview and help determine who was at fault and who caused this collision.
In this case, if the taxi driver was at fault, he and his employer could be held liable for the injuries caused to the motorcyclist. If there was a dangerous condition at the intersection, which caused or contributed to this injury crash, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could be held liable as well. Any such claim against a California governmental agency must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury. An experienced Garden Grove personal injury lawyer will be able to explain about the victims' legal rights and options in such cases. The best car accident law firms will always offer a free and comprehensive consultation to injured victims and their families.
