Two people, including an infant, were critically injured in a San Fernando Valley car accident involving a Metrolink commuter train. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the train struck a car the morning of December 23, 2009 in the 9800 block of North San Fernando Road, near Branford Street. The crash occurred after two cars had collided on San Fernando Road. The impact from the crash pushed one of the vehicles on to the tracks where it was hit by the train. At least 30 passengers on the Metrolink train, identified as the Antelope Valley Line train No. 201 from Los Angeles to Lancaster, sustained minor injuries. Two others in the cars were also injured.

My heart goes out to all those injured in this horrific crash. I hope and pray that the two victims, including the baby, who sustained critical injuries, make a fast and complete recovery. My prayers are also with the Metrolink train passengers who were hurt. I wish them the very best for a speedy recovery as well.

Accident Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that this Metrolink train accident was a chain-reaction crash caused by the initial car accident. It's not clear at this point how or why that initial collision occurred. I trust traffic investigators are looking into whether one of the vehicles' drivers failed to yield the right-of-way, ran a red light or rear-ended the other car. There may be many different ways how this crash occurred. But what's important to determine, is whether there was negligence or wrongdoing on the part of one of the drivers, which caused this major injury accident.

The victims of this train-car accident would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Fernando Valley personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and determine who was at fault for this accident. A car accident lawyer who has experience handling Metrolink train accident cases will also look into whether the train operator was responsible in any way or whether a dangerous condition on that roadway or crossing may have caused or contributed to this accident.
