Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
A 26-year-old man was seriously injured in a Long Beach car accident after his vehicle was broadsided by a big rig loaded with cars. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the driver was traveling on the northbound 710 Freeway near Willow Street, when the big rig hit the driver's side of his sedan, the morning of January 27, 2010. The man's hip and leg were trapped and firefighters took about 10 minutes to free him from the car. The man was taken to an area trauma center, but his injuries are said to be non life-threatening.
My heart goes out to this man who has been injured in this freeway collision. I'm relieved to hear that he is expected to survive and hope his injuries were not catastrophic in any way. I wish him the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep him in your prayers.
Long Beach Car Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 39 fatalities and 2,212 injuries involving car accidents in Long Beach. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Fault and Liability
It's not clear based on this news report who was at fault for this truck accident. It seems that the driver of the large truck loaded with cars may have veered away from his designated traffic lane or lost control of his rig causing it to move sideways and broadside the car. I trust an official investigation will shed more light on what occurred here.
If investigators determine that the driver of the big rig was negligent or at-fault in this case, the car's driver could seek compensation for medical expenses, lost earnings, cost of hospitalization, surgery, pain and suffering, and other related damages. In such cases, the driver of the big rig and his employer could be held liable for the injuries and damages. Victims who are injured in such accidents would be well-advised to seek the counsel of a reputed Long Beach personal injury lawyer who has successfully represented those injured in truck accidents.
