Accident News For Attorneys, the Legal Field & the Public
Five people sustained injuries in a Los Angeles truck accident the night of January 11, 2010 after a truck crashed into a Metro bus in the Silver Lake area. According to a KPCC news report, the crash occurred in the 1800 block of North Glendale Boulevard. Five people, including the truck driver and four bus passengers, were taken to area hospitals with injuries. Thankfully, these injuries are not said to be critical or life-threatening.
The driver of the truck was apparently on the off-ramp of the Glendale Freeway when he struck a guardrail, went through a red light and crashed into the bus, Los Angeles police officials said. However, California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident because it occurred at a freeway off-ramp. No arrests have been made yet in connection with this injury crash.
My heart goes out to the bus passengers who were injured in this horrific bus crash. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. They will be in my prayers.
Traffic Accident Statistics
There were 260 deaths and 27,110 injuries involving traffic accidents in Los Angeles in 2007, according to CHP's traffic accident statistics. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.
What Caused the Collision?
Based on this news report, it is not clear exactly what caused the truck driver to lose control of the vehicle, run a red light and crash into the bus. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver of the truck under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did he suffer a medical condition? Was he driving recklessly? Was there a malfunction in his vehicle that caused it to go out of control? If the driver's recklessness caused this accident, the truck driver and his employer (if he was on-the-job) could be held liable.
